ReMaker Spaces

A collaborative hub for creativity, community, and collective renewal.

What is a ReMaker Space?

A ReMaker Space is an interdisciplinary, intergenerational hub where students, faculty, and community members come together to work on creative projects and programs. Through hands-on activities, our mission is to challenge the culture of disposability — not just of materials, but also of ideas, skills, and people.

UConn offers two ReMaker Spaces, both located on the Storrs campus in the Student Union and Beach Hall. The spaces are co-led by Native American and Indigenous Studies (NAIS) and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) in the Department of Social and Critical Inquiry, in partnership with UConn’s Native American Cultural Programs (NACP).

More than a room full of tools, art supplies, and recycled materials, UConn’s ReMaker Spaces are places to experiment, play, and reconnect. We host hands-on workshops and community gatherings focused on repairing systems, renewing skills, and reviving ideas.

Main Space Features, Programs, and Events

ReSource Box

Take what you need, leave what you can. Borrow or donate gently used tools, art supplies, board games, puzzles, or books. Everyone is welcome to share.

ReNourish Pantry

Our food pantry supports community well-being by offering snacks and donated food to sustain one another. It’s a place to exchange nourishment, share resources, and remember that food connects us.

From Finals to Finales

This workshop series is for instructors interested in creative final projects like zines, podcasts, or digital storytelling. Includes pedagogy, assessment, and hands-on demos.

Repair Café

Don’t toss it, fix it! In partnership with the Willimantic Repair Café, we offer our skills to help others revive their broken, worn, or wobbly items. From lamps that won’t light to zippers that won’t zip, we’ll help you troubleshoot, repair, and learn along the way.

The ReGift Shoppe

An end-of-semester donation and reuse drive is for students who are moving and would rather donate than discard their unwanted items. We partner with the student‑run thrift store and other university and community organizations to ensure that your gently loved items find new homes.

Seeds and Sovereignty

Events in this series cultivate conversation, connection, and collective growth among those rethinking farming, gardening, and food systems, with a focus on Black and Indigenous knowledge and traditions. We invite guests and participants to share skills, stories, and strategies for creating sustainable food futures.

ReMix Mixers

This series includes discussions, lectures, pop-ups, and special events that explore, critique, and reimagine systems, structures, and ideas. Whether you’re curious, skeptical, or deeply engaged, it offers space to think critically, experiment, and explore new possibilities.
