Internships

Internships are work-learning experiences that let you apply your academics to real-world problems and build connections with employers. Your internship can be paid or unpaid, and take place on or off campus.

Students in the Department of Social and Critical Inquiry can pursue a variety of internships that reflect your academic and career interests. In addition, students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) can pursue course credit for their internship experience.

Finding an Internship

The Center for Career Readiness and Life Skills provides resources to help you find internships or co-ops. The Center can also help you prepare for an interview and develop your resume and cover letter.

You are also welcome to find your own internship with an organization, agency, or business of your choice. For inspiration, explore our list below of internship sites and opportunities pursued by past students.

Earning Course Credit for Your Internship

The Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) area offers an internship course for undergraduate students. Enrolling in the course allows you to earn academic credit for your internship, giving you the opportunity to gain practical experience while advancing toward your degree.

  • Students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) may earn up to 15 internship credits toward the total required for graduation.
  • Students must enroll in the course before starting their internship. Credit cannot be awarded retroactively for work done without prior enrollment.
  • As outlined in the internship contract, each credit requires a minimum of 42 hours of work per semester or term.

Before enrolling in the internship course, please review the CLAS Internship Policy and consult with Mick Powell, WGSS faculty internship advisor, to review the specific requirements for your major.
