Early College Experience

The UConn Early College Experience (ECE) program allows Connecticut high school students to take UConn courses and earn both high school and college credit. The Department of Social and Critical Inquiry offers ECE courses in American Studies and Asian and Asian American Studies, taught by certified high school teachers. Students who successfully complete these courses earn UConn credits, which can be applied toward their college degree.

Our Courses

AAAS 2201: Introduction to Asian American Studies

A multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary introduction to major themes in Asian American Studies. Concepts of identity and community, migration and labor histories, Asians and the law, representations of Asians in visual and popular culture, gender issues, interracial and interethnic relations, and human rights.

AMST 1201: Introduction to American Studies

What is an American? A multi-disciplinary inquiry into the diversity of American societies and cultures.

Become an ECE Instructor

The Department of Social and Critical Inquiry certifies qualified teachers as UConn ECE instructors, allowing them to teach AAAS 2201 and AMST 1201 at their high schools. The ECE program offers resources for instructors, including professional development opportunities and support for course instruction.
